Building the shared infrastructure for the environmental movement.

Co-Founder, Environmental Alliance and National CleanUp Day. Based in San Diego.

It started with a pair of barbecue tongs on a hiking trail. My hiking partner and I turned picking up litter into a game, other hikers joined in, and that grew into Clean Trails and National CleanUp Day, now the largest coordinated cleanup day in the U.S. Years of work alongside World Cleanup Day and EARTHDAY.ORG showed us what the whole movement was missing: shared infrastructure. Environmental Alliance is how we’re building it.

Environmental Alliance

Shared data, standards, and coalition tools so the groups protecting the environment can act together. GeoDesign shows where action matters most; community-based social marketing shows how to make change stick.

National Cleanup

National CleanUp Day is the day people know. The platform behind it helps organizers, cities, businesses, and nonprofits plan, map, and measure cleanups all year.

Spatial Social Design

Where GIS meets human behavior

Maps can show where a problem is. Behavior science can show how to get people to act on it. Most projects use one or the other. This book brings the two together into one practical approach for planners, businesses, governments, and environmental groups who want changes that hold up on the ground.

Think of it as two halves of the same job: start from the place and work toward the people who shape it, or start from the people and work toward the places they change. Shared infrastructure is what connects them.

The book is still at the proposal stage, so the title and details may change.
